Norwich City F.C. is an English professional football club founded in 1902 and currently competes in the top flight of English football. Commonly known as the ‘Canaries’, the 2019-20 season will be the 9th outing in the Premier League for the Norfolk based club.

Founded in Norwich, Norfolk, the club took time to establish itself within the then newly formed English Third Division in 1920. After a stretch of mediocre performances the club was finally promoted to the Second Division as Champions in the 1933-1934 campaign. With crowds continuing to rise there was added pressure on the club to find suitable stadium options. The club eventually moved to its current home Carrow Road and in 1935 played its inaugural match ending in a 4-3 win against West Ham United. Continued stints within the Third Division was capped off with a semi-final run in the FA Cup, defeating two First Division sides on the way, including Matt Busby’s Manchester United in the 1958-59 season.

The early 60’s to 70’s saw the club climb the promotional ranks to finally earn a spot in England’s First Division for the first time whilst earning domestic cup success along the way. In 1962 Norwich Manager Ron Ashman guided the club to their first trophy, defeating Rochdale 4-0 to win the League Cup. Just over 10 years later the club would make their first appearance at Wembley Stadium in 1973 as a First Division side just losing out to Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup Final.

In recent years the club has seen varied results. Having maintained their Premier League status in the early years of the competition the club has spent a number of seasons in the EFL League 1 and EFL Championship. Promotion back to the top flight of English football was a remarkable journey which saw the club being crowned champions of the EFL Championship for the 4th time. A key to the team’s success was their ability score goals and keep possession of the football, which ultimately lead to only 6 league losses all season. Norwich scored an incredible 93 goals in 46 league matches, which was spearheaded by EFL Championship Player of the Season Teemu Pukki (29).

Norwich City F.C. is currently coached by German manager Daniel Farke who aims on building a successful 2019-20 Premier League campaign. Promotion from the EFL Championship was built on Farke’s high pressing strategy which thrives on possession to build a structured and attacking style of play.
