First ten-time champion, América Futebol Clube, founded on April 30, 1912, is undoubtedly one of the most traditional clubs in Minas Gerais and Brazil. In its rich centenary trajectory, the history of América is intertwined with that of Belo Horizonte. Its first stadium (also the first grassy field and with covered bleachers in Minas) was located where the Central Market is today. In the Santa Efigênia neighborhood, where there is now a supermarket, América had the unforgettable Otacílio Negrão de Lima Stadium, better known as Alameda. Nowadays, the American home is the Independence Stadium, a source of pride for all fans. Affectionately known with the nickname ” Coelho ” with glories also in Olympics sports – highlighting the eight-time Minas Gerais basketball championship -, he achieved his greatest achievements in the football he carries in his name. Nationally, América twice won the Brazilian Championship of Serie B, in 1997 and 2017, in addition to having won a Brazilian of Serie C, in 2009. The American team raised the cup of the Copa Sul-Minas, in 2000, in first edition of the interstate tournament that brought together great teams from Brazil.

Owner of one of the most beautiful shirts in world football, América shines with its three colors: white, green and black.

Athletes like Jair Bala, Juca Show, Cândido, Zuca, Petrônio, Gunga and Satyro paraded across the lawns from around the world, in addition to the revelations of the base category, with emphasis on Tostão, Eder Aleixo, Palhinha, Euller (the Son of the Wind) , Gilberto Silva, Fred, Alessandro, Alex Mineiro, Wagner, in addition to the Japanese Yuji Nakazawa, who played for America between 1996 and 1997 and later became the hero of his country’s team. Recently, Coelho also revealed names like Danilo, Richarlison, Matheusinho, among many others.

The American team also stands out for its management model that is different from most other clubs, with a Board of Directors at the head, in addition to the Advisory Board, which includes all presidents and ex-presidents and helps to manage the Club and its future. Off the field, América is also known for its great heritage. This is how América, the Coelho, always grows and lives up to the verse of his hymn ‘… you are the glory of national sport’.
