Honors
Middlesex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first class county clubs within the ECB. Founded in 1864 the club has held first-class status since its inception and have won 13 County Championships, the third most in the tournament’s history. The club currently competes in Division 2 of the County Championship, aiming to obtain promotion under club captain Toby Roland-Jones and coach Richard Johnson. Having competed in the County Championship as one of the original teams, Middlesex has been graced with many cricketing legends. Most notably include Mike Gatting, Andrew Strauss and the great Denis Compton.
Middlesex play their home matches at the renowned Lord’s Cricket Ground, which has effectively made them the ceremonial county of Greater London. Lord’s Cricket Ground is known as the home of cricket and is seen as the pinnacle venue for any aspiring cricketer. With a capacity of over 30,000 Lord’s Cricket Ground has been the venue for many memorable matches at both International and Domestic level.
The club’s most successful era was during a 17 year span from 1976 to 1993. During these dominant years Middlesex won 6 County Championships and another 7 domestic titles. During this time the club was led by Mike Gatting and Mike Brearley and spearheaded by England bowlers John Emburey and Phil Edmonds.
In more recent years the club’s last title win was in 2016, winning the Country Championship on the final day as unbeaten Champions. Middlesex had to win against an also unbeaten Yorkshire side. If they drew the match then Somerset would have claimed their first County Championship, denying Middlesex of a title since their 2008 Twenty20 Cup win.
