Founded in 1882, Warwickshire CCC is one of 18 first-class county clubs within England & Wales.
The Club has won seven County Championship titles and has had strong success across all formats of the game, undoubtedly making the Bears one of the most recognised counties in the game.
Notable players that have represented Warwickshire CCC include England legends Ian Bell, Jonathan Trott, Dennis Amiss and the late Bob Willis. Other notable players from overseas include Brian Lara, Allan Donald and Kumar Sangakkara.
Warwickshire CCC hosts its home games in South Birmingham at the world-renowned Edgbaston Stadium, which has been a regular venue for the biggest international fixtures since its first Test match in 1902. Along with its enriched history Edgbaston has hosted some memorable cricketing moments such as the 2005 Ashes Test when England beat Australia by only two runs.
It was at a meeting outside of Birmingham in Leamington Spa in 1882 that the Club was founded. The Club developed so well in its infancy that by the time of the first County Championship in 1890 it was playing some of the top first-class counties such as Surrey and Yorkshire. In 1911 led by Club legends Frank Foster and Frank Field, the duo combined with 238 wickets that season, ultimately winning Warwickshire CCC their first County Championship.
In recent years Warwickshire CCC has won four trophies since 2010. However, its greatest period of success was from 1993 to 1997, which was spearheaded by the likes of Dermot Reeve Brian Lara and Allan Donald. During this period the County won back-to-back County Championships and secured a historic treble by winning the Sunday League and Benson & Hedges Cup.
This year will see the Club participate in a new-look LV= Insurance County Championship, due to the effects of COVID, taking on Champions Essex, Durham, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and local rivals Worcestershire in the initial group stages. Securing a top two finish will lead to a place in the top six of the divisional structure and a chance to compete for the prestigious Championship trophy.
